Eyebrows on fleek

large (3)

Filling in your eyebrows seems to be the in thing lately, it’s awesome and gives you are daring full face look. Filling in the brow is difficult (for me and a whole lot of other ladies) to be honest it’s really technical especially if you want perfect brows. Firstly I recommend you get your brows tweezed, threaded or whatever you do to shape them. Once they are shaped filling them in will be much easier.

tame your mane
tame your mane

I suggest you get them professionally shaped because if you find someone who does this for a living, he/she can give you a great eyebrow shape.  The goal is to have the arch of the brow just outside your pupil. You definitely want to shape them but not too thin because generally fuller brows portray youth (I’m assuming this is the look you’re going for).

Here comes the technical part of  things:

Eyeberow filling guidelines
Eyebrow filling guidelines

For some this picture may look intimidating but I’ll break it down.

  1. Use a makeup brush, eyebrow pencil or eyeliner to guide you when filling in your eyebrows.
  2. Point 1: Place your eyebrow pencil on the corner of your nose; keep it as straight as possible. This is where you need to start filling in from.
  3. Now you need to determine where the brow should end which is Point 3: Place your pencil diagonally. One end of the pencil should be on the corner of your nose, the other end should be in line with the outer corner of your eye. This is where your brow should end.
  4. Finally determine where your arch should be Point 2: Place your pencil right in the middle of the triangle which you created by determining point 1 and However make sure the pencil will pass through your pupil. Meaning the arch will be much closer to point 3 than it would be to point 1.

If my explanation is confusing please follow the eyebrow filling guidelines picture.

727d0ff0f42d9f170eaa1d767c0dabe3

Making your brows look natural. I use the eyebrow pencil to draw the outline of my brows but I use powder to fill them in. By doing this you will definitely achieve more natural looking brows.

NEVER EVER EVER…YES I MEAN EVER…shave off your eyebrows only to draw them back on! What’s the point of this exercise can someone explain that to me. All the ladies I’ve seen who have done this do not have amazing drawing skills it’s usually a skew unflattering line. Don’t use a red or black pencil to fill your brows in, this looks fake and gives off a tacky vibe so please stop. Don’t overdo the thickness or fill them in to close to each other you don’t want a unibrow.

Highlighting & Contouring 101

A perfect example of what higlighting and contouring looks like!!
A perfect example of what highlighting and contouring looks like!!

Highlighting and contouring is the current craze in the make up world. I world personally like to thank whoever came up with this great technique. Make-up has never looked so good since highlighting and contouring came to town.

What exactly is highlighting and contouring?

Highlighting is to create artificial light to your nose bridge, cupid’s bow, cheek bones, and eyebrows. You use a concealor or light foundation and put it on places of your face that you want to highlight. Most people put it below their eyes, on the nose to the head and on the chin

Contouring is to create an illusion of a shadow around your temples, jaw line, nose, and cheek bones to accentuate your bone structure and slim down your face & nose. This is perfect for when you want to add more definition to your face.

The lighter areas are highlighting points. The darker areas are contouring points. The pink if you can see it is where you would apply your blush.

The knight in very shiny armor

This is't the guy who inspired the article...I just think he looks super hot in a power suit.
This isn’t the guy who inspired the article…I just think he looks super hot in a power suit.

This isn’t your typical knight. He looks like a knight, dresses like one he probably even smells like one…The problem with this knight is the fact that he has ZERO, NADA prioritizing skills. In fact I’ve found myself wondering how such people survive. So what is a knight in very shiny armor . He is in no way a knight but he looks like one. He is super stylish, has the best clothes (designer gear or not) oh and did I mention his ride.

A knight drives around town in the hottest most customized rides… That Range Rover 2015 you’re forever dreaming about…His GOT IT!!! He also lives on the right side of town. He is very charming. He sounds perfect, almost too good to be true…well he is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. As I had mentioned earlier this human being doesn’t know how to prioritize or chooses not to prioritize. I’ve met one of these knights so I’ll tell you all about him.  I’d like to mention that it didn’t go very far. This guy and I are completely incompatible. The guy (whose name will not be mentioned) was dressed well and spoke confidently. He convinced me to give him my number, we met in Sandton.  He called and asked that we go out for dinner on Saturday night. I agreed and I drove there and met up with him. I had assumed we would have dinner at Mandela Square like he had said earlier. No this brother wants us to go have dinner in Pretoria. I wasn’t impressed but agreed because he claimed he had made reservations. So we got into his car and drove to Pretoria…well that was the plan. As we approached the high way I don’t know why I looked at his speedometer…this guy was driving using what was left of his fuel (RESERVE TANK VIBES). So here we are driving to Pretoria on the high driving a really fast Merc using his reserve tank to get us there. To cut the story short there was no dinner reservation. Turns out the guy was starving on top of everything else. We stop at the filling station (here I am thinking finally ‘He decides to fill up the tank’) he gets out of the car goes into the convenience store that had a fast food restaurant and gets a burger and fries…Nope he didn’t get me one and he ate it while sitting right next to me (yes I was STARVING too after driving around with this guy). I eventually tell this guy to take me back to Mandela Square so that I can get a decent meal and go home. He had the nerve to ask me for R50 saying we won’t be able to get to Sandton with the amount of fuel he had left. HELL DATE of the century!!!

The moral of this story is that never waste your time on someone who looks and sounds great on the outside but in actual fact he has zero priority skills or sense of responsibility for himself. What’s the point of having expensive things but still suffering when it comes to the basics?

A few examples I've come across
A few examples I’ve come across
  • A knight in very shiny armor will have an amazing car (usually with a whole lot of extras) but not enough money to fill his own tank. PS. get an affordable car!
  • He has the most stylish fridge and appliances but hardly any food to keep him energized for the day. Cut down on appliance cost buy groceries.
  • He lives on the right side of town. The complex is amazing until you see his unit. Other than the TV, sound system, fridge and microwave there’s hardly anything decent there. I’ve seen a case so extreme that there was a HUGE flat screen TV but no couches just camp chairs…Seriously?!
  • This guy will pop bottles in the club dressed in designer gear from head to toe but the next morning he is flat out broke. He doesn’t even have money for hot wings…it’s rough outtchea!!!

Beware of the Knight in very shiny armor…

10 Signs of a controlling girlfriend

Controlling Gf

We females can be just as controlling as males (if not worse). I think it’s only fair to give males (who also read my blog posts) the heads up too. These are 10 signs that I honestly think are alarm bells for a controlling girlfriend.

1. She must always have her way

Basically she is a bully in other words. There will be HELL to pay if she doesn’t get her way. Some women use emotional blackmail to get what they want. Other females are straight to the point they use the power of fear to make you do what they want you to do. Sometimes it get to the point where she will abuse you verbally (even physically with certain females). People with Narcissistic personalities are often bullies. Some males eventually start to defend such behaviour because they identify with the aggressor.

2. Verbal attacks

Verbal attacks are so common when it comes to controlling women. When i say verbal attacks I’m not just talking about swearing at you I mean the whole 9 yards. Criticizing, threatening, screaming, yelling, swearing, sarcasm, humiliation, exaggerating your flaws, and making fun of you in front of others. A controlling woman will continue to treat you in such a manner because she isn’t scared of you or she knows you will let her get away with such behaviour ( Don’t get violent when telling her to stop PLEASE).

3. She demands all your attention

When I say all of the attention, I mean, all of your attention. I know that it’s hard to believe, but there are women out there that want to really control every bit of attention that you have. Whether you are visiting with your friends or you are seeing your family, she’ll get upset by it (especially if you didn’t ask for her permission).

4. She is addicted to conflict

She’s addicted to conflict. She gets a charge from the adrenaline and drama. She may deliberately start arguments and conflict as a way to avoid intimacy, to avoid being called on her nonsense, to avoid feeling inferior or, bewilderingly, as an attempt to avoid being abandoned. She may also pick fights to keep you engaged or as a way to get you to react to her with hostility, so that she can accuse you of being abusive and she can play the victim. Yes some women do this.

5. Withholds affection and sex

This is a form of rejection and emotional blackmail. It’s not just about sex, it’s about withholding physical, psychological, and emotional nurturing. It includes a lack of interest in what’s important to you, your job, family, friends, hobbies, activities and being uninvolved, emotionally detached or shut down with you. This can lead to a transactional relationship, in which you have to perform tasks, buy her things, “be nice to her,” or give into her demands in order to receive love and affection from her.

6. Emotional blackmail

She will use emotional blackmail to get what she wants. She threatens to abandon you, to end the relationship, or give you the cold shoulder if you don’t play by her rules. She plays on your fears, vulnerabilities, weaknesses, shame, values, sympathy, compassion, and other “buttons” to control you and get what she wants.

7. She keeps constant tabs on you

A controlling woman will call you 10-15 times per day to keep track on what you’re doing, who you’re with and where you’re going next with each call. She also expects you to call her multiple times a day and demands to be by your side as often as possible.

8. Jealousy

Jealousy can be tricky. If your girlfriend is overly jealous, exhibiting irrational behavior when you hang out with your friends or if you so much as glance at a member of the opposite sex, this could be a sign of a controlling person. It is healthy to have other friends, including friends that are also girls. Your girlfriend should understand this.

9.  Your friends and family all think she is controlling

Your friends and family can prove a source of guidance when it comes to relationships. You may not always agree with their opinions nor should you blindly follow their advice. It’s important to take notice, however, if none of your confidants or trusted family members approve of your girlfriend. Your close friends and family usually have your best interests at heart, so if they don’t think your girlfriend is treating you well, they’re offering important information.

10. Mood Swings

Controlling girlfriends are likely to have mood swings that vary between mean and sweet. One day, she’ll be verbally or otherwise abusive, making you feel you are the cause of her pain. The next day, she’ll seem normal again, the same person you thought she was when you met. This cycle repeats again and again as she attempts to assert her dominance.

Since human beings are social creatures, being in a relationship with the right person can prove very fulfilling. While most relationships start out well, as both parties get to know each other, they can devolve into a situation where one partner dominates and controls the other. Recognizing the signs of a controlling girlfriend can let you know whether it’s time to move on.

10 signs of a controlling boyfriend.

image I’ve seen and heard of controlling boyfriends but I wasn’t aware of how bad it could get. My friend dated a guy who started off so loving and sweet then he poisoned her against us. She had excuses why she couldn’t hang out with the rest of the girls. Until I got to spend time with her and her  boyfriend that’s when I realised that my friend was dating a control freak. Here are a few signs that led to my conclusion of him being a control freak.

1. He makes you dependent on him

I’m all for a man who spoils his lady but there’s a point where you need to worry. I’ve personally found myself in such a situation. The guy I was dating wanted to spend money on me all the time, I really enjoyed it until… He started suggesting that I stop going to work because I needed my beauty sleep. I worked as a promoter at the time it wasn’t the best job in the world but it was a job nonetheless. That’s when I realised that he wanted me to stop working and rely on him which will obviously make it easier for him to control me. That’s exactly what my friend did… She became dependent on him.

2. He hates all your friends/ you’ve become a loner

The moment my girl started dating this human being he suddenly became the expert on what’s good for her and what’s not including her friends. She introduced her boyfriend to us and as usual something was off ( I told her). She got upset and obviously told her boyfriend!!! Suddenly he felt that I was a bad influence and she should stay away. Since when was I a bad influence? She believed him and started distancing herself from me but she was still close with the other ladies in our circle. One by one we were all bad influences. Then HE WAS HER ONLY FRIEND.

3.  He murders your confidence

Ever woman wants a man that will shower her with love and praise, this will make you feel even more confident than before. A controlling boyfriend doesn’t do that, all wants to do is poke holes into your confidence. Some guys will make you feel like something is wrong with you. You may even start to feel unattractive because he compliments any other woman but you. My friends’ boyfriend was very good at reminding her of her weight (which was absolutely fine). He would comment on whatever she orders at the restaurant, reminding her that she will only get fatter and fatter if she doesn’t eat more salad than pasta. These sort of things chip away at the confidence you have.

4. My boyfriend the DICTATOR

A controlling boyfriend will often tell you outright what to do. He will tell you he doesn’t want you going to lunch with your friends, that party and in extreme cases work/school.If you find that your movements and actions are being dictated by your boyfriend believe me it won’t get any better. He simply feels that your beneath him and therefore need him to make decisions for you with is nonsense.

5. He makes you feel like you are the crazy one

Everytime you try confront him about his new attitude towards you, he acts like he doesn’t know what the hell you are talking about. He tell you that you are imagining things, overreacting and crazy. A controlling boyfriend will never admit to being wrong or anything that puts him in the negative.

6. He is forever checking up on you

Does your boyfriend call to find out where you are and who you are with? He probably also asks when you’ll be home, and wants to know your every move? He probably wants an update every 10 minutes. You might interpret this as him being worried about you, but there’s a big difference between calling to ask when you’ll be home and checking up on you. It gets annoying believe me! When your phone rings and everybody around you already knows it’s your boyfriend, then you know you have a problem.

7. Makes you feel guilty

Controlling boyfriends try to make you feel guilty because you have a life (outside of your relationship with him). He may imply it, rather than say it outright. Say you want to go out with friends and your boyfriend doesn’t like it. He may pretend to be sick and  tell you not to worry, go anyway, he’ll cope … So you cancel your plans, and he’s got his way without appearing to have told you what to do. Controlling boyfriends are very manipulative and sneaky. They know all the right buttons to soften you up.

8 You are forever making excuses for him

Do you ever start to complain about, but then jump to his defense minutes later? Once I suggested to my friend that maybe they should split up, all of a sudden my friend started to say “you just don’t know him” or “I love him and he loves me, you just dont understand”. He’s actually really sweet” or anything like that? If so, that’s a bad sign. It probably feels more like you’re trying to convince yourself, rather than who you’re defending him to.

9. He is really nosy

He will always be snooping in your stuff. Whether it is your social networking site, your voice mail, your texts or your mail. He will always need to know what is going on with your life, money, friends, conversations and pretty much anything else you can think of. For a controlling boyfriend, there are absolutely no boundaries or privacy. While he is all up in your business, he may get very angry when you snoop around in his stuff and tell you that is not okay, even though it is okay for him to do it to you.

10. You start feeling suffocated

This is a common sign that you are being controlled by your boyfriend. If you feel like you’ve lost your freedom, you are always catering to him and he is not returning the favours, then he may be controlling.

If you think you have a controlling boyfriend please read this article and be honest with yourself. Are these signs relevant to your relationship? You can also read other articles about this topic that way you can read about other signs. I hope this article will help you or someone you know.

5 detox water recipes

detox water recipes

Drinking water all by itself is a way to help flush the body of toxins on a daily basis, but with a few simple ingredients you can transform water into detox water and get even more benefit from it. This is something you can do each day, or as part of a more broad detoxing strategy. Each one of the ingredients listed here will provide slightly different benefits, so be sure to choose it according to the particular goal you have.

Lemon and Ginger morning routine

lemon-ginger-drink

The easiest way to get detox water every day is to simply squeeze the juice from half a lemon into a tall glass of water each morning. Drinking at least 2 glasses of lemon water every morning will flush out those toxins and keep them from building up. If you’re drinking it every day, you are certainly going to feel better because you will be constantly releasing toxins that can make you feel sluggish and sick. There’s no recipe aside from squeezing that fresh lemon juice into a glass of spring or filtered water and you can add ice if you want.

Lemon and Cucumber detox water

cucumber-water-mason-jar

I drink this water all the time it’s not the best when it comes to taste but it really does work. I have a 1L tupperware container which I use to make my detox water. I slice a full lemon (it will taste bitter if you can use half a lemon which will taste less bitter. I add some cucumber to the water I usually add 7 normal sized slices some mint leaves and ginger. I pour boiling water into the container and leave it overnight. I drink it the next day at work once it’s cooled down.

Peppermint & Grapefruit

13-peppermint-detox-water

This detox water has ingredients that will clean out your kidneys, eliminate bloating and help you to enjoy much healthier skin. It also aids in digestion. You need about 1 Litre of purified water, ½ lemon sliced, ½ lime sliced, ½ grapefruit sliced (you can also substitute or add oranges), 1 cup of sliced cucumber with peels, 1 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger and a handful of fresh peppermint leaves. Just add all of the ingredients into a jug and cover with ice. Refrigerate for at least a couple of hours before serving and discard after 24 hours as the citrus fruits tend to get a little mushy.

Gorgeous skin & Craving control water

detox-beauty-water

This water recipe tastes absolutely devine and its great for the skin. With ingredients like cinnamon which improves circulation, strawberries that contain anti-ageing properties and mint which helps improve digestion and eases stomach cramps this drink is for Everyone. You will need 2 Litres of water, 1 lemon, 7 sliced strawberries, 1 sliced apple, a handful of mint leaves and lastly a teaspoon of cinnamon. Put all these ingredients into a container with water. Let it cool in the fridge for a few hours and after that its ready to serve.

Lemon and strawberry infused water

11521b24a7f3d2dbb0d5a1c7fe798008

This recipe is nice and easy. All you need is some strawberries and 1 lemon. Slice them and put into some cool water. Put the water in the fridge for 3-4 hours and enjoy. This water is amazing for clearing your skin and looking younger.

Lemon berry fat flush

8329e4dd45cd5f1e2f2ee8e553d46ff7

This recipe is for flushing out fat in your system. It also very easy to make. All you need is a cup of blueberries (Fresh or frozen), 1 cup of raspberries (frozen or fresh), 1 lemon and 2 litres of water. Add all ingredients to a large 2 Litre container, cover with lid and allow to chill overnight in the refrigerator, drink throughout the day.

Feel free to shout if you would like more recipes. These recipes are not quick fixes but if you are dedicated you will definetly see results.

6 Ways to revamp your room on a budget

STRIP copy

I’ve always wanted to revamp my room and make it more girly and warm (not just a room I sleep in). Revamping my room felt like it would cost an arm and a leg which I wasnt willing to pay. Over the years I’ve mastered the art of decorating and revamping my room on a budget. Here are a few ideas on how to give your room a make over without breaking the bank.

1. Buying a new duvet set can do wonders for a dull room. I love white duvet covers with embroidery on. For todays post I have chosen a Mr Price home Duvet cover. It nice and simple but can brighten up any room. When it comes to pricing it differs depending on the size of your bed. I have a double bed which will cost R379.99 (this includes 2 standard pillow cases and the duvet cover). Please have a couple of duvet covers on stand by so you can change your bedding at least twice a month. It’s advisable to have a matching night frill, 2 continental pillowcases and a matching sheet.

2. DIY Fashion Illustration frames

I am a huge fan of fashion illustrations, my favourite illustrator happens to ne Haden William from the UK. I have collected so many of his illustrations but I felt that I needed to do more. I decided to frame my favourite illustrations and hang them up on my wall where my desk is. How I did it: I printed out my favourite illustration and simply put them in photo frames; this took about 30 minutes at most.

This is a stunning example of fashion illustrations on a wall.

If you are not a fan of illustrations you can use quotations, pictures of flowers or anything that will put a smile on your beautiful face.

3. Making your own decorations

Adding your own personal touch to your room is always fun (can be messy) and rewarding. It gives you a feeling of accomplishment (at least that’s how I feel because I’m a DIY fundi) Here are some ideas for adding your own personal touch.

I absolutely love this! It takes 5 minutes to put together and it’s really not expensive.

I also bought this at the Crazy Store for a CRAZY R24.99.

I adore polystyrene words. You can express yourself using certain words. I love drawing words, numbers or alphabets on polystyrene. Once I’m happy with the shape or word I use a craft knife to cut it out. You can use glue and glitter, wrapping paper and glue or even paint to decorate your work.
DIY-Makeup-Brush-5-1
This is a great way to store your makeup brushes. All you need is a glass bowl and vase filler or rice to fill the container.

5. Add some colour with cushions

4146c90d324808d6ac5959b23f7a2eac
Cushions are just amazing they add a pop of colour when and where it’s needed. You can make your own cushions or buy them at a store. Mr Price Home has some many cushions to choose from. These happen to be my favourite they go with almost any devut colour. DO NOT OVERDOSE ON CUSHIONS PLEASE.

6. Cute storage ideas

I have some many things I need to tuck away; having cute storage compartments makes life so much easier and it makes your room look adorable. Here are some of my favourites at the moment.

If you have as many pens, pencils and highlights as I do; you definitely need this pencil holder in you life. It’s nicely sized to keep your pencils and pens in. Its pink and cute so why not buy this? You can find this at any Mr Price Home store and it only costs R49.99. Its ceramic if you have toddlers in the house this might not be a good idea.

I sincerely hope that this post helps you revamp your room and not break the bank in the process. Do let me know if you would like some more DIY ideas; I’d be happy to help. I hope you are having a fabulous Saturday cause I am!
